Thrifty Tuesdays

We haven't done much thrifting in the past two weeks because the last time Shannon and I went shopping we came back with a car full of treasures, and we've been taking our time uploading them to Etsy, but I wanted to share some of the great things we found.

A little about what we've found:

The first piece is an beautiful classic 80's necklace. Great statement necklace.

The second picture shows a great pair of suspenders we found paired with a whale bow-tie necklace, satin shirt, and mini skirt to keep it young and fun.

The last picture shows one of my favorite finds - a 50's sailor dress. Its very simple, but beautifully made, with buttons down the back (back, back).

What I personally have found the hardest about thrifting is knowing what to buy and what not to buy? How do you know someone else will like it? When I found the necklace, I also found a pair of awesome (terrible??)  sailboat shorts made out of terrycloth. They were high waisted. They had pockets. I was torn - who would like these? I like these. I honestly started questioning my taste. I put them back. What do you think? Was it a mistake or did I make the right call? Its HAUNTING!

Well, I hope I didn't make a mistake. If they weren't terrycloth, I would have been all over these.

Until next week thrifters!

Stop Horsing Around

Sarah here - reporting to you what we've done these past few days.

Shannon and I went shopping for six hours on Monday and came home with empty wallets, sore feet, and heaps of awesome vintage clothing.

Last night we rented four (yes four) super girly movies, made some popcorn, rearranged my living room, and set off photographing all of our garments. We knew we were in for a long night - and we were right. Nearly six hours and 160 pictures later we were done!

So keep an eye on our Etsy page for all the new items that will be posted!

Thought this might be cute - guess not...

Beautiful coat - too bad it had missing buttons :(

Best of the 80's
One of my favorite finds: A Horse Print Shirt!

The Birds

I just wanted to re-re-introduce The Mockingbirds since we've gained a few new followers and our "About Me" isn't quite enough.

The Mockingbirds is a group of five recent art school graduates who found themselves stuck. They graduated, were thrown into the real world and have to work jobs that "pay the bills" instead of just doing what they love. The concept behind the line is that we recreate expensive pop culture fashion, home decor, and accessories and bring them to you at  lower price with out sacrificing quality. We bring you vintage, accessories, clothes, and home decor at a budget.

Minami majored in writing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She took a year of Fashion Classes, and many fibers classes. She is now a server and does freelance work on the side for the Examiner, Chicago Poetry Society, and a number of online periodicals.

Colleen majored in - well just about everything - she is the Renaissance woman of the group, studing everything under the sun from sewing to metalsmithing! She works at Hancock Fabrics and does freelance work on the side.

Shannon is the most recent graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago who focused on sculptural fibers work and hat making. She is a part time nanny, and does the "trend" research for The Mockingbirds.

Sarah majored in hat making, fibers, and textile design. She is currently the Social Media Manager, as well as store manager at Mr. and Mrs. DIGZ - a Chicago boutique - were we actually sell some of our items.

Marisa focused on ceramic works during her studies. She is a server with Minami  as well as a TA at Lille Street Art Center.

We each have different duties within The Mockingbirds that highlight what we focused on during school. The Mockingbirds are our creative outlet. Our dream is to someday be able to focus primary on The Mockingbirds.

Let us know a little about yourselves!!
